I really am not sure if there is another career in this world that gives you the opportunity to surround yourself with such love and sweetness on a regular basis.

I have friends in the nursing fields, social work, police force, even waste water management and grave digging, and I have always said that it is the biggest blessing that I get to photograph weddings, engagements, proposals, and newborn babies for a living.

But the bigger blessing is the people that I meet along the way.

People like Tim and Stephanie. I met these two for their engagement sessions a couple years back and had such a wonderful time at their wedding last November, but there is something about newborn sessions that are just so much more real.

The Carrolls live just over two hours from my house so my husband, Tyler, and I decided to make a day of it and drove together along with our little babe. As I stepped into their home and saw sweet little Norah asleep in her crib, it suddenly hit me that I don’t have a newborn anymore.

They tell you not to blink and that it all goes by so fast but I truly did not realize how fast. Watching Norah and those brand new eyes, those arms and feet that seem to just control themselves, that little cry seems to say, “I wish I were still inside that warm womb.” — and realizing that that stage is already gone for our sweet Calvin.

Stephanie and I started off the session with some photos of her and Norah. In fact, I even ran downstairs and told dad and older brother, Nate, to doze off. Tim looked at me to be sure I was actually serious, that he was actually getting permission to sleep, and then quickly took my advice.

After just a few minutes, it was evident that Miss Norah was hungry and while Stephanie nursed her newest little one, we talked about all things new-mom. About how hard it can be to juggle it all, to navigate nursing, to find the energy and power through the lack of sleep. We talked about how thankful we are for our husbands who just pick up all the things we can’t and how they’re there to hold us through the mood swings.

We had the most beautiful session with Norah, Stephanie, Tim, and Nate but what was even more beautiful than the photos is the love they all share and the kindness they exude.

To make it clear, towards the end of the session my Tyler and Calvin were outside and Tim and Stephanie so kindly welcomed them inside where it was a bit cooler. Calvin made himself comfortable on the couch and Tim even found him a toy to keep him busy. Before we left, I nursed Calvin in their living room and we all shared laughs and short stories about what it’s like to be parents of these little babes.

You all are more than clients to me, you are friends. You are relationships I will always cherish and I am so SO thankful to have each of you in my life.
